Now it is time to get back in gear with our brains rearin' and ready to focus on school. Here are this week's spelling words:
corn, door, horse, more, pour, store, hurries, cried, bring, brought, next, picture, read
*sugar *turned *hours
~We are focusing on "r - controlled" words using -or, -ore, -oor, -our and words where you "drop the Y add an -IED or -IES.
This week we are working on Subtraction with double digit numbers, weight, measurement, and reading about using clues to solve problems. Have fun practicing this week!
We will soon be learning about "borrowing" for subtraction so:
Below is "BIG OLD BOG" (the number that is *) who is the bigger number in either a one's, ten's, or hundreds column. I have them find "B.O.B." and if he is on bottom then we know we need to borrow from his top floor neighbor. We have them scratch out the next upper column (or the 10's), write a number that is ONE LESS (4-1= 3) and then peck the one you took away next to the column (one's) who borrowed.
Here is an image below that will allow you to help your children!!! This is a very difficult task for them to understand, so PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT.
