Me in a nutshell:

My name is Arden Prucha and I will be teaching 2nd grade at J.A. Hargrave in the 2008-2009 school year. I graduated in the spring of 2006 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Early Childhood Education -Magna Cum Laude! I have taught 3rd grade for the past two years at Hargrave and am excited to teach a new grade! When I was younger I realized how much I loved children and my childhood friends would tell you I was a teacher then; always bossing the younger ones around. I had another passion when I was young that has been hidden until recently and that is photography. I love being able to capture blessed and pertinent moments in other's lives. It is my gift that I use to tell stories through art by capturing hearts onto a piece of glossy or matte paper. I am a mother to a beautiful and kind soul. His name is Pierson and he will be five in November. His gifts are compassion and unconditional love that he gives generously to all he comes in contact with. I would say that I am doing everything I ever dreamed of as a child: teaching, photography, and motherhood. I am a very lucky and blessed young woman.

A few cool things about my job are:
1. I am able to work with children everyday and can often act like one myself (woohoo).
2. I am so fortunate to work with the best sister and "Teacher of the Year," Nicole Tomme.
3. Our day flies by because we have so much fun in the classroom - I truly feel that being called "weird" is an honor and I use that as a key teaching tool in our classroom.
4. My school has an amazing staff who is supportive, funny, and friendly.
5. I learn just as much as my students learn, if not more, each day.

Wormalicious!

This is my first time to read How to Eat Fried Worms with the class. So the 3rd grade teachers thought it would be funny to play a trick on our students. Just look at this picture:Well, the kids thought they were disgusting and to their surprise I thought they were TASTEY! Oh yeah, I ate one right in front of them as it was moving & all. I then dared the kids to come try one and sure enough one by one kids were coming up. I have to give props to my girls who were the first to grub on some "earthworms." Tootsie rolls covered in brown sugar are a perfect substitute for real worms and they even move like worms. We had some of our kids so tricked they were running around the room screaming. Then my class helped by tricking some of their classmates who were out of the room during the original "taste test." They had fun convincing them they were yummy... one out of the final four tried the worm.

Our Wishes:

Junebug is a fantastic novel that deals with the sorrowful realities of an inner-city child's lifestyle. I love reading this because the kids get a look at how hard life could really be for them. Some of the children can relate to Junebug's heartaches in many different ways. Junebug has a birthday in the novel where he sets 50 bottles out to sea with his wish to sail a boat. My favorite activity that we did was "MY WISH" in a bottle floating on the waves outside of our classroom. The kids created their wish and we had wishes ranging from getting their dog better to becoming a great martial arts performer to asking for family help. I love seeing my student's brilliant and warm hearts!

Math Maham

Okay it has been a while since a posting... well we got through both TAKS tests!!! Here are some pictures of us incorporating fun with math. We used a more creative approach using hands on manipulatives and art to understand math concepts. We have a lot of fun in class and I believe that having fun in the classroom is the most important key to learning. We are a zany bunch! Take a look:
